5 Minutes With...Simon

Today we are taking 5 minutes to get to know our Global Operations Manager for Freelance, Simon Duff

How long have you worked for Leap29?

Joined in June 2008!

What does your role mostly entail?

I manage our Freelance team so that involves negotiating contracts with clients, identify payroll solutions and mostly working with the team to ensure targets are hit and as many of us achieve the incentives as possible!

What is the best thing about your job at Leap29?

I love seeing our consultants on the team achieve personal success and grow their own businesses and careers.

What lead you to your career in recruitment?

I had finished a temporary sales contract and was on the train back to Wilmslow having just finished my degree. Leap29 had an advert at the train station that said good at Sales, Academia or Sports? Want a career in international recruitment? I applied and after 3 interviews started work 2 weeks later!

What advice would you give someone starting their career in recruitment?

Henry Ford once said ‘whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you're probably right’…Recruitment is 80% attitude 20% natural ability. Learn from the people around you, be a student of the recruitment industry and be a keen observer of the sector you work in.

Now for the fun stuff…

What was your dream job as a child?

After realising I didn’t have the natural ability to be a footballer I always wanted to work in business. I thought people like Richard Branson were really cool.

If you could listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That’s a really difficult on as it would totally depend on my mood! It would probably have to be Bob Marley 3 Little Birds

What is your life motto?

I have loads of phrases I use all the time (much to the amusement of my colleagues) but I think the most important one is do what makes you and the people you love happy. As long as you keep that in mind you won’t go far wrong.

What is your favourite TV show?

I think my favourite TV series is probably the Soprano’s!

Who is your idol?

I wouldn’t say I have an idol – there are a lot of people I like and admire for different reasons…Stuart Pearce, Russel Brand, Nigel Benn and James Caan are some of my favourite people whose biographies I have read.
