Applying Direct vs A Recruitment Agency

Today with the increasing amount of internal recruiters and adverts directly from an organisation, it is understandable for people to apply directly.

I'm sure many candidates also obtain positions this way.

Therefore I asked myself, if I was applying for a position, would I use a recruiter? How would a recruiter benefit me?

1. A good recruiter is a networker.

This means that they will have made contact before you have actively started looking for a new position. The recruiter should know that your project has come to an end or that your contract is up and be ready to assist you at the start of your search.

2. A good recruiter will provide a candidate with multiple options.

If I was looking for a position, I would want options before making a decision. If you apply directly to one company you can only ever work for that company, however a good recruiter with a strong network in their field will be able to provide options so you can make the decision that’s right for you.

3. A good recruiter will be able to assist the candidate throughout the recruitment process.

Before applying for a position, I would want to know that I have a good chance of obtaining a job. A good recruiter will be able to advise you honestly regarding the jobs suitability and help you prepare a CV.

4. A good recruiter will manage the interview process.

A good recruiter has worked with the client previously and can advise you on the interview process. They will guide you on the interview format, inform you of the key points to mention during the interview and provide you with honest feedback afterwards.

5. A good recruiter will manage the negotiation process for you.

They will know their client’s salary limits and will inform you of this from the start. Throughout the process they will manage the client’s and your expectations in order to get the best deal for both parties.

6. A good recruiter will remain in contact with you once you have started work.

They will make sure that you are settling into a new position, assisting with any initial teething problems. This contact will continue throughout and they will be in a good position to assist you if you are looking for opportunities in the future.

As always it would be great to get your feedback on this blog and please feel free to comment.
