Performance CV: Pros & Cons

Performance CV Pros and Cons

A "Performance CV" is perhaps the most common CV used to date by industry professionals. The aim of this CV is to make your career achievements stand out and usually with companies that are well known to the company you are applying for.

The content is like a standard CV but a Performance CV should include an "Achievements Section" which aims to highlight impressive achievements throughout you career and can make you stand out from other appplicants.

One of the most frustrating things about CV's is that most tend to list every single duty that a candidate performed which, is OK to a certain extent but what the employer / recruiter is looking for is what did you achieve in this role for e,g, "Developed a new software programme" can be changed to "Proactively developed a bespoke programme that 100% of the company locations adopted".

What are the Pros and Cons?

Pros:

  • Want to highlight your career progression
  • Your present or last employer is well-known by the company you're applying to
  • You want to stay in the same line of work

Cons:

  • Not suitable if you have got gaps in your work history
  • Want to change your type of job
  • If the relevant experience you’re trying to emphasise was some time ago – it might not stand out
  • you've worked in lots of different jobs and you want your CV to look more focused

Tips:

  • Ensure you reference how many years experience you have in personal profile
  • Achievements Section- can include both personal and professional common achievements are: promotions, cost saving, show responsibility, charity commitments
  • Ensure Job Title and Company name are visible and consistent
