What does payroll outsourcing in Brazil cover?

Our Brazil payroll service covers salary calculations, payslip creation, income tax withholdings, social security contributions and employee registration with local authorities. We also handle ongoing compliance, such as monthly and annual filings.

What reports are employers required to submit to the Brazilian tax and labour authorities?

Employers must provide regular payroll reports to the Brazilian tax and labour authorities through the mandatory eSocial platform, a digital system for reporting employment, social security and tax data. These filings confirm wages, deductions and contributions.

Do employers have to provide bonuses in Brazil?

Yes, Brazil requires a 13th month salary as a mandatory annual payment.

Here’s how it’s calculated:

  • Full-year employees: Those who work the entire year receive an extra month’s pay, equal to their regular monthly salary.
  • Partial-year employees: If someone hasn’t worked the full year, the amount is calculated proportionally to the number of months they were employed.
  • Variable pay included: Commissions and bonuses are also counted, since Brazilian law treats these as part of the employee’s salary.

Employees leaving the company are still entitled to a proportional share of the 13th salary.

Most commonly, it’s paid in two instalments, the first of which is paid by November 30th, and the second by December 20th.
