What does a Cyprus employment contract include?
In Cyprus, employers are required to provide employees with a written employment contract that outlines the terms and conditions of their employment. At a minimum, this must include:
- The date the agreement for employment was made
- The names and contact information of both the employer and the employee
- The job title and duties of the employee
- The agreed-upon period of service
- The specified number of working hours and days for the role
- The agreed-upon salary and any additional benefits or bonuses
- Termination provisions, including notice periods for both the employer and employee
- The amount of annual leave entitlement and public holidays available to the employee
- Mutual agreements regarding non-disclosure and confidentiality
What types of employment contracts are there in Cyprus?
In Cyprus, employment contracts can be indefinite or fixed-term/temporary:
- Indefinite Contracts – This is the most common type of employment contract in Cyprus, by which employment is provided for an unspecified period. The employee may resign observing the stated notice period, and either party can terminate the employment at any time for a justifiable reason.
Fixed-Term/Temporary Contracts – These contracts are rarely used in Cyprus. Under this agreement, there is a predetermined date of termination on which the employment automatically ends.
Can I change an employment contract?
Yes, Cyprus employment contracts can be changed, but this requires a mutual agreement between the employer and employee, as well as a written amendment. This amendment must be signed and stamped by both parties.
