- Register with the Maltese authorities, including the Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA) and the Department of Social Security.
- Obtain a tax identification number and register employees for social security contributions.

Maltese Wages & Pay
Maltese Minimum Wage
Enforced by the Department for Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER), the national Maltese minimum wage per week for full-time employees is as follows:
- Under 17: €219.82
- 17 Year-Olds: €222.66
- Aged 18 & Over: €229.44
Employees with contracts mandated under Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) may have wage increases that are in addition to, or inclusive of, COLA (the Cost of Living Adjustment).
COLA is an annual mechanism used in Malta to increase pay for both full-time and part-time employees based on the previous year’s inflation. Full-time employees are entitled to the full increase, while part-time workers are entitled to part of the increase in proportion to the hours worked.
Maltese Sick Pay
Maltese sick pay is covered by the Wage Regulation Order (WRO) in place and is typically paid by the employer for 15 days. If there is no WRO in place, employees are entitled to 3 days of fully paid sick leave per year, before being entitled to Sickness Benefit from the Department of Social Security.
Maltese Severance Pay
Malta does not have a general statutory right to severance pay, but under the Employment and Industrial Relations Act (EIRA), notice periods, redundancy rules and any severance agreed in employment contracts or collective agreements must be respected.
In Malta, severance pay is generally determined by:
- The reason for termination.
- Length of service.
- What the employer has promised in writing or through company practice.

In Malta, employees are entitled to:
- 24 working days per year, calculated in hours (192 hours based on an 8 hour day)
